Where should I place SearchVortals ads on my pages?
The best position for SearchVortals ads varies from page to page, depending on the subject matter. Here are a few questions to consider when deciding where to position your ads:

  • What is the visitor trying to achieve by visiting my website?

  • What do they do when viewing a specific page?

  • Where is their attention likely to be focused?

  • How can I incorporate ads into this area without getting in the visitors' way?

  • How can I keep the page looking clean, uncluttered and engaging?

Certain locations tend to be more successful than others. This "Hot Spot Chart" demonstrates these ideal placements on a sample page layout. The colors fade from dark blue (strongest performance) to light blue (weakest performance). All other things being equal, ad placements above the fold most often perform better than those below the fold. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids regularly do well because visitors are focused on those areas of a page.

While this Hot Spot Chart is useful as a positioning guideline, we strongly advise putting your visitors first when deciding on ad placement. Think about their behavior on different pages, and what will be most helpful and visible to them. You'll find that the most advantageous ad position is not always what you would expect on particular pages.

For example, on pages where visitors are usually focused on reading an article, ads placed directly below the end of the textual content tend to perform very well. It is almost as if visitors finish reading and ask themselves, "What do I want to do next?" Accurately targeted ads will answer that question for them.

Which SearchVortals format should I use?
As a rule, wider ad formats tend to do better than their taller counterparts, due to their reader-friendly format. Readers soak up information in thought units (meaning, several words at a time). The wider format lets them read more text at a glance without having to skip a line and return to the left margin every few words as they would be forced to do with a narrower ad. The wider ad format also lessens the likelihood of readers leaving the ad unit altogether.

Since these formats allow users to read more text without having to skip a line every few words, users' eyes have less chance to leave the ad unit altogether. If positioned well, these ad formats can increase your earnings. SearchVortals offers two ad formats, stacked and horizontal. Each format has the ability to stretch to any dimension you wish. Keep in mind that while both of these ad formats typically perform well, you should use the format that best complements your pages.

What color palettes are the most successful?
Creative expression is the answer when it comes to color palettes, since there is no defining or concrete rule about which hues are most successful. Basically, it's best to attract, not distract: select colors that strike a balance between drawing the visitor’s attention and overshadowing your content. Try to stay away from ads that stand out so much they're obtrusive and ads that blend in so much they're invisible. Regardless of the color palettes you choose, make sure that they complement the color scheme of the page.

A tip for experimenting with color palettes: add variety and freshness to your ads by rotating between several color palettes. You only need to hold down the Control key and select up to four color palettes when generating your ad code during the Choose Ad Format and Colors step in the guided setup of your ad code.

You can also use transparent colors to allow your website's graphics to show through and truly deliver a custom look that matches you page.
